The Rise of Egypt's Digital Economy and Staff Arabia's Leading Role

In the midst of the state's efforts to support and develop information infrastructure, the Egyptian Minister of Communications, Dr. Omar Talaat, affirmed the government's adoption of several initiatives and the implementation of numerous projects to achieve digital transformation in all sectors of the state. This came during the seminar organized by the Egyptian-Canadian Business Council and the Egyptian Business Council for International Cooperation under the title "The Role of the Communications and Information Technology Sector in Supporting the Economy", with the presence of ministers, former governors, some European ambassadors, businessmen, including Mr. Iyad Al-Hafez, the CEO of Staff Arabia, economic and media experts, and several leaders from the Ministry of Communications and Postal Services.

 

Dr. Amr Talaat explained that investments are being made in programs to build digital capabilities for all age groups and educational backgrounds to create a new generation of skilled Egyptian workforce with the aim of attracting foreign investments. Dr. Amr Talaat pointed out that Egypt's Digital Strategy has been launched to develop the outsourcing industry with the goal of developing digital exports from outsourcing and exporting services, attracting major global companies to invest in Egypt in this industry, and providing job opportunities for youth. He clarified that Egypt's digital exports reached $4.9 billion and the target is to reach $9 billion by 2026, confirming the interest of global companies from various countries to invest in Egypt in the outsourcing industry, including countries known for their leadership in this field. Egypt ranked third globally in the "Trust in Outsourcing Services Providers Index."

 

Dr. Amr Talaat also explained that the communications and information technology sector has been the fastest-growing sector in the country for five consecutive years, with a growth rate of 16.3%. Its contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) reached 5% and aims to reach 8%. He highlighted the improvement in Egypt's ranking in the World Bank's Digital Government Readiness Index, where Egypt has become part of the leading group in the (A) category, up from (B) in 2020 and (C) in 2018.
